You can use aaTTF to convert any TrueType font into a smoothed form, preserving the kerning of letters, ligatures and every other attribute. This update will be one of the last updates to the 1.0 series, as Beta 2 is finally ready for release. Performance is improved, yet there are still a few bugs to be ironed out. RQ2 is now in, and you can find it on the site. There are a couple of fixes – these are not in Beta 2 yet, but I am releasing this anyway, as it fixes my latest contact. For example, the “Convert to Smoothed” button wasn’t working. I’ve been working on the Anti-aliasing branch for some time, the main feature that allows fonts to be anti-aliased. I’ve thought of a few problems with this feature, and although they are not very likely to happen, having an arbitrary edge detector is something that can be useful sometimes. I’ve implemented a plasmoid, which is one of the forms that the application can take. The speed is still not very high, but it is already a lot more accurate than with Anti-aliasing disabled. The plasmoid has a couple of limits, though. It needs to scan the entire image (which is a lot of pixels, depending on the size of the image), and it can only be used for black and white images. I have also made the GUI more stable, as the dialog was getting some weird behavior when placed in the taskbar (that doesn’t exist on KDE4). Beta 2 is currently in… sorry for not doing a release in a while, but I have been working on a few things, and there have been quite a few crashes and weird behavior when using the plasmoid, as well as a minor crash from the main window. Apart from that, the plasmoid is functional, I think (although this is the first time I tried to use one of the solver components, so I’m not really sure whether it works as intended). I will try to make a new plasmoid soon, using the new AA solver This update features a serious change: I have implemented support for submetrics. These features allow you to change the kerning used for multiple glyphs. This should give you more flexibility when designing a skin, as well as create a better fitting font. 2f7fe94e24

The aaTTF application can be downloaded for free at www.atisfonts.com/.aaTTF has an extensive tutorial in the Help tab for new users. For a short video demonstrating aaTTF: You are watching the video produced by the Anti-Alias TrueType Font project which features a demonstration of aaTTF and the use of version 1.1 of the application in a beatnik skin: Notice the improved filling and beveling in the signature drawing. The gap between the signature and the face is gone. As you can see, filling and beveling lines like number 622 are now perfectly aligned. There are even some extra control points to keep the soft edges of the signature. This is the result from aaTTF demo using a.ttf file for the Karoon skin. Notice how much difference aaTTF makes. There are 7 rounded corners in the above photo, whereas all 9 are rounded in the above demo. The dark blue outline color does not match the UOT font color. The Karoon UOT font seems to have a hole in the lower left part of the face in the above image. The Karoon UOT font is the same as the UOT font with aaTTF applied, with exception of the adjustment to lower left area of the face. To adjust the lower left area for the UOT font in aaTTF, right-click on the UOT font and pick ‘UOT Adjust’ from the context menu. The UOT Adjust option sets the following properties: Direction: Top To Bottom Horiz/Vert Pattern: Horizontal LineWidth: 0.5 DotScale: 1 DotRadius: 2 To use UOT Adjust, first click on ‘Cancel’ in the Adjust button’s context menu. Then click on ‘UOT Adjust’ to open the dialog. If you are making a skin for UOT, the UOT Adjust dialog should be the first one you open. If the UOT Adjust dialog is not the first one you open, make sure that the “UOT” font is the current font. To open the dialog, right-click on the face, select “UOT Adjust” from the context menu, and click OK. Note: UOT has a problem in that the ‘Cancel’ button in
What’s New In AaTTF?
There is a lot of TrueType fonts and you probably don’t know which one you want to use for your skinning. When you need to use a true type font in a skin, you need a tool to make this work. It’s annoying to have to use some fancy type of TrueType font with an under sized pixel-width just because your skin was created for displaying webpages at 72dpi, and your type font can only be a true type font at 96 dpi. TrueType fonts are difficult to use when creating skins that are to be viewed on a resolution below 96dpi. However, all you need to do is remove a few lines of code from the original source and you have a true type font with a pixel-width of 72dpi with all smoothing enabled! aaTTF Features: Converts TrueType to Anti-Alias-Smoothed TrueType If you have a TTF font and you want it to be smooth (like in GNOME), simply convert it to an Anti-Alias TrueType Font, then you will be able to use it in your skins, and have it look like it was made by a professional. Revert a font back to default anti-alias smoothing (if desired) You can set the default smoothing back to its original settings, if you want to (default – Anti-Alias TrueType Font) Anti-Alias TrueType Font Preview Feature (for skin designers) If you want to preview the Anti-Alias TrueType Font before converting, simply click on the eye icon to preview the font at the resolution you want. You can also change the pixel-width (if you want to preview it smaller than 96dpi). Anti-Alias TrueType Font Properties This tab allows you to adjust the properties of the Anti-Alias TrueType Font. The settings you can make here are the same as you can with any other TTF font. If you want to preview how the Anti-Alias TrueType Font will look in your skin, you can simply click the eye icon to preview it. Also, you can change the pixel-width to preview it at 72dpi, like your skins resolution. Improved – Improved aaTTF Improved aaTTF offers some improvements over the previous version. * It has a new icon in the top left-hand corner of the window * The font properties shown when aaTTF is processing
