Q: Protractor integration tests – adding a custom validation to element I have a requirement to attach custom validation to element, I am new to protractor so any help would be appreciated. Context: There is a form which has multiple elements to be validated. sample to be validated My requirement is to validate that user input contains only alpha numeric characters. so, I have tried using below //WebElement-1 var element = element(by.id(‘m.editable-input-6-desc-label’)); expect(element.getText()).toEqual(‘Enter a summary’); //WebElement-2 var element = element(by.id(‘m.editable-input-6-desc-label’)); var regex = /[A-Za-z]+$/; expect(element.getText()).toEqual(‘Enter a summary’); But both the cases are not working. My element is considered as empty, which is not right. I have also tried using validaitonBy with no luck. Can someone suggest what am I doing wrong? A: So there were couple of issues. The expression in the pattern can be simple string or can be in the format /^([A-Za-z]+)$/ The regex I have was not working and my expression was wrong. Also I was wrong in expecting getText as i was running it on the element itself. So instead I needed to run it on the input box and wait for it to get in the value. Below is the working code var element = element(by.id(‘m.editable-input-6-desc-label’)); // wait for the value to come and validate element.getAttribute(‘value’).
